Establishment and General overview

The department of Architecture and Urban Planning was accredited in 1998 E.C. The main aim and objective of the department is to offer Architecture and Urban Planning at B.Sc. degree level. The department regularly reviews and updates its five year BSc. curriculum by involving professionals and stakeholders to introduce practical modules, which include new general/specialized studio practices and new comprehensive and integrated Architecture and Urban Planning design projects.  

The study program has a total duration of 10 semesters and a one summer industry placement for on-job training. Candidates for enrolling into the program are primarily students who have successfully completed the 12th grade preparatory secondary education and who have secured a minimum cutoff point with high interest of attending in the department. 

The Department of Architecture and Urban Planning has enough laboratories, workshops and studios for drawings to provide both practical and hands-on training for students of this Program.

Graduate Profile

Architectural education develops the capacity of students to be able to conceptualize, design, understand and realize the act of building within a context of the practice of architecture. The basic goal is to develop the architect as a generalist who is able to resolve potential contradictions between different requirements, giving form to the societies’ and the individual's environmental needs.

Architecture is the science and art of designing buildings. Here at Addis College we train our students to be successful architects and urban planners who have 

  • The ability to create architectural designs that satisfy both aesthetic and technical requirements 
  • Adequate knowledge of the history and theories of architecture and the related arts, technologies and human sciences.     
  • Knowledge of the fine arts influence on the quality of architectural design.
  • Knowledge of urban design and the skills involved in the planning process.
  • An understanding of the relationship between people and buildings, and between buildings and their environment... 
  • An understanding of the profession of architecture and the role of the architect in society.
  • An understanding of the methods of investigation and preparation of the brief for a design project.

Staff Profile

The department has well qualified academic full and par time staff who can teach the courses to offer project works necessary to qualify in the architecture and urban planning program.
